Bianca Andreescu has had a breakout tennis season. The 19-year-old has won three titles this year and achieved a career-high number 5 ranking in September. She was last in action at the US Open and her victory over Serena Williams made her the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam. The Canadian took a couple of weeks off to celebrate her victory. She is back on the court for the China Open and recently qualified to play at the WTA finals in Shenzhen.

Forgot how it feels to lose

The Grand Slam winner is confident she can keep winning. Andreescu has in the past revealed that she is a big fan of meditation. She has admitted to using the practice daily and visualizes herself in positive situations. The 19-year-old has said that she expects to continue performing at her best and will focus her recent winning streak. She said, “I don’t want to sound like cocky or anything, but I kind of forgot how it feels to lose, which I think is a good thing. When I do visualize and meditate, I always make sure to feel the feeling of myself winning. It’s good that I forgot about the other feeling.”

Return to action

Andreescu won her first match on her return at the China Open. She defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round. The Canadian dropped the second set but won the decider in a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory over the Belarusian. The 19-year-old revealed that her confidence is high after the victory. She will face Elise Mertens in the round of 32. The two played each other in the quarterfinals of the US Open which was won by the Canadian.

With victories at the Indian Wells and Rogers Cup this year, the teenager is a favorite to win the China Open. She has said she is still coming to terms with her success and has learned different lessons from all the tournaments she has played this year. After a period of rest, the current world number six said she felt good going into the tournament and expects a deep run. The WTA recently announce Andreescu and Romanian Simona Halep as the third and fourth participants for the WTA finals in Shenzhen. Halep was also playing in Beijing and lost in the first round to Ekaterina Alexandrova. The former world number one struggled in the match and appeared to have suffered a back injury.
