Tsitsipas stuns Zverev in Toronto after saving 2 MPs

Incredible stuff in Toronto!

Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Sascha Zverev in an amazing match to reach the semifinal after saving 2 MPs claiming his 3rd consecutive top10 scalp.

The match

After Stefanos got an early 2-0 lead, Zverev got into his groove to win 10 of the following games and lead 6-3 4-1. At that point, everything looked to point a routine win for the German that after holding serve had a 5-2 advantage. Just out of the blue, when the world no.3 was trying to serve out the contest (6-3 5-3), Tsitsipas broke Sascha in the 9th game (5-4) to then hold serve (5-5). The affair went to a monumental tiebreak that the Greek won 13-1 after saving 2 match points.

In the 3rd set, Tsitsipas dropped his serve again in the 5th game (2-3), but once again he broke back Zverev (at love!) to make it 3-all. The battle was then decided at the very end with Tsitsipas breaking Zverev in the last game before winning 3-6 7-6(11) 6-4. The match ended after 2 hours and 27 minutes.

Hard work and dedication is paying. VIDEO

Soon after the match, Stefanos couldn’t contain his happiness to comment

“If you would tell me that I would be making a semifinal of a Masters 1000 I would tell you you’re crazy. Dreams do come true at the end with hard work and dedication.”

After this win, Stefanos is projected to enter in the top20.

Next vs. Anderson

Stefanos will play Kevin Anderson in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for the Greek, but that was on clay. This could be different.
