Roger Federer has broken many tennis records throughout his tennis career. The Swiss has won a record 20 Grand Slam titles since turning pro in 1998. Many in the game consider him to be the greatest player of all time. Federer has credited his family for being a large part of his success during his illustrious career.

Family: Mirka and the children

The 20-time Grand Slam champion is married to Mirka Federer. The couple has four children, two sets of twins both girls and boys. Their daughters, Charlene and Myla were born in 2009. Their boys, Leo and Lenny were born in 2014. Roger’s family is often seen in the stands cheering him on. The children were especially popular during the 2017 Wimbledon final where they wore matching outfits while cheering their father.

Hope they become good citizens

Federer has stated his love for his family and travels with them during tennis tours. With his children now growing up, the Swiss is taking a more keen approach on how they develop. The former world number one speaks to his children about how to relate to each other and to those around them. He has said he would like them to grow up educated and respectful of all people. In teaching them these values, the 38-year-old hopes they become good citizens. He said, “I tell them to speak to each other in a calm way, always say hi, shake your hand, and look at other people in their eyes. It’s really worth it. I hope they become good citizens, that is my main goal.”

At 38 years, the current world number three is still playing at a high level. In the last few years, he has had to deal with questions about his retirement. Federer has said that with the good family support system he has, he has not thought about retiring yet. He reached this year’s Wimbledon final but lost to Novak Djokovic in a close match. He has admitted that loss was heartbreaking and he even cried in the locker room after the final. However, he revealed that he went caravanning with his kids in Switzerland after the final. The trip proved to be a welcome distraction from the loss as he spent time with his kids hiking and camping outdoors. Federer recently played at the Laver Cup and helped Team Europe win for the third consecutive year. He is expected to play at the Shanghai Masters next month.
