I want to win every tournament that I play. ANDREESCU IN BEIJING

The Canadian star is on a roll lately. Will she be able to follow up her U.S. Open win with more victories?

Bianca

As one of the sport’s newest stars, the tennis world’s eyes are trained at Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian tennis player just recently took home the top prize of the U.S. Open, delivering the first Grand Slam title for her home country. With the 2019 tennis season drawing to a close in the next few months, there is a huge expectation for Bianca to perform well in the upcoming tournaments.

Bianca Andreescu wants to win more tournaments

During an interview before the start of the China Open, the 19-year old tennis player expressed her desire to win more tournaments in the next few months. She said that while the China Open and other tournaments are not as prestigious as the four Grand Slams, she still wants to do her best. She also said that it is part of her job to play the best she can offer no matter where she plays.

World No. 5 is consistent in saying that she wants to win every tournament possible. When she reached the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open last month, she also said that her self-confidence is a huge part of her gameplay. This will enable her to compete better with strong rivals in the tournaments that she wants to win.

During the pre-China Open interview, Andreescu also said that she feels honored to be part of the next generation of players expected to make a difference in the tennis court. She observed that the past few years saw more young players do well in the tournaments including Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff.

She also shared her thoughts about possibly becoming the world no. 1 in the next few months. The world no. 5 said that if she keeps her trajectory, it is something that she would want to experience.

Getting to No. 1 before the season ends might be difficult for the 2019 US Open champion though. Current world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has a 1,666-point lead over the Canadian player. Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka may stand in Andreescu’s way too.

Andreescu’s achievements

The Canadian tennis star has had a massive year in the tennis courts. She currently holds the 2019 female singles record for the most cumulative prize money at $6 million, despite having to sit out for four months because of a shoulder injury. Apart from her U.S. Open win, she also took home the titles for the Indian Wells Masters in California and the Rogers Cup in Toronto in the past seven months.

Perhaps, most impressively, she has an 8-0 record against top 10 players in 2019. She is basically undefeated since March 01 except for two matches where she had to bow out because of her shoulder injury.
