Halep, Muguruza to play for world no.1

Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza are going to play a crucial match on Thursday.

In fact, the Romanian and the Spaniard are going to face off not only to conquer the final in Paris, but the winner will also become the world no. 1 from next week.

The situation

Currently, Halep is the world no.1 with 7,270pts, Wozniacki is no.2 with 6,935pts, and Garbine is world no.3 with 6,010pts.

After dropping last year’s points, this is the situation

Halep 7,270 – 1,300 = 5,970 pts
Wozniacki 6,935 – 430 = 6,505 pts
Muguruza 6,010 –  240 = 5,770 pts

if Simona wins the semifinal

In this case, the Romanian will still lead the rankings, and GArbine will stay no.3.

Halep 5.970 + 1,300 = 7,270 pts
Wozniacki 6,505 + 240 = 6,745 pts (she is already out of the competition as she lost in the 4th round)

Muguruza 5,770 + 780 = 6,550 pts

If Garbine wins the semifinal

In this case, the Spaniard will be the new world no.1, and Simona will stay no.2 for just 5 points.

Muguruza 5,770 + 1,300 = 7.070 pts
Halep 5.970 + 780 = 6,750 pts
Wozniacki 6,505 + 240 = 6,745 pts

That’s an interesting one.
