Federer back to world no.1

Roger Federer is enjoying his time off the competitions, and he has the “good news” that he will be back at the top of the rankings after this week.

How is this possible?

Before the clay court season, Rafael Nadal was leading the Swiss by only 100pts, and the King of Clay had to defend the titles in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and Madrid to stay at the top. That means that if Rafa was not able to do that, he would have lost his world no.1 rank.

Eventually, that will happen next week after Nadal lost in the Madrid quarters to Dominic Thiem. In fact, the Spanish Legend will drop 640pts (1000 from last year’s title in Madrid minus 360pts from this year’s quarters). That means that Federer will lead the rankings by 540pts.

Rafa back to no.1 in Rome?

Interesting enough, Rafa can be back to world no.1 he wins the ATP1000 in Rome next week where he reached the quarters last year. However, he can lose it again if he doesn’t win the Roland Garros.

That’s a roller coaster. Isn’t it?
