There were no doubts at all that Rafael Nadal is the best clay court player in history. Yesterday, Rafa went one step more.
After defeating Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-4, the King of Clay has the new record for the most consecutive sets won on a given surface (50) overtaking John McEnroe that 30 years ago ended his run at 49 on carpet (1984).
Rafa won the encounter against the Argentine in 1 hour and 44 minutes after scoring 69 points vs. Diego’s 56.
It was a difficult match. NADAL
Soon after the encounter, Rafa admitted that breaking McEnore record wasn’t his focus to comment.
“I really don’t think much about that. All these things, probably after I finish my career will be the time to think about it. I won a difficult match against a very difficult player that played well.”
The quarters vs. Thiem
Rafa will face Dominic Thiem in the quarters. The head to head is 6-2 for Rafa with all matches played on clay.
