Dewsbury set for new 30,000-square-foot sports venue on Bretton Park Way
Padel8 is scheduled to open at Unit 600, Bretton Park Way, in November, bringing a substantial new indoor sports venue to Dewsbury. Its 30,000-square-foot site will contain 6 pro-specification courts, each supported by AI match cameras, digital scoreboards and 360-degree LED halo lighting intended for top-tier play.
The venue’s hospitality offering will include changing rooms finished to five-star hotel standards, with underfloor heating, marble-accented showers and gold fixtures. Players and members of the public will also be able to visit Serv, the on-site premium cafe serving speciality coffee, artisan sandwiches and wood-fired pizzas. A recovery area, studio space and wellness centre are planned for the second phase.
Luxury, community and the club’s project vision
According to Katie Smith of the Padel8 team, the founders set out to create something that would offer considerably more than a traditional sports hall.
Smith said, “From day one, the vision for Padel8 has been to create much more than a place to play padel,” She added, “We wanted to build a destination where people come to connect, exercise, socialise and feel part of a community.”
The club’s development in Yorkshire has also been shaped by the accessibility of padel, Smith said.
“One of the biggest reasons padel has become the fastest-growing sport in the world is because it’s incredibly social. It’s easy to pick up, addictive to play and brings people together in a way that few sports can,” she noted. “Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player, there’s a place for you here.”
High-end hospitality provided the model for the interior, with the aim of encouraging visitors to remain at the venue around their matches.
“Every element of Padel8 has been designed to deliver an experience that goes far beyond the game itself,” Smith said. “We wanted to create a venue with the feel of a luxury hotel or members’ club – somewhere people genuinely want to spend time, whether they’re playing or not.”
Smith said the venue also wants to establish itself as a national standout: “Padel8 isn’t just built to be best in class in the UK. It’s a world-class destination for padel.”
Opening plans, club leadership and support for local leisure
A community-led schedule will offer competitive padel as well as sessions for families, complete beginners, over-50s, juniors and women. The plans arrive while Dewsbury considers its future leisure provision after the closure of Dewsbury Sports Centre; Kirklees Council has allocated funding for a replacement building.
Smith said Padel8 is intended to complement the town’s sporting network, not rival publicly provided recreation facilities.
“We’re not trying to replace what Dewsbury Sports Centre offered. Our goal is different,” Smith explained. “We want to complement the local leisure offering by creating a vibrant community hub centred around one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.”
She also outlined the venture’s wider civic aims:
“Above all, we want the people of Dewsbury and Batley to feel proud to have a venue like this on their doorstep, while attracting visitors from across Yorkshire and beyond.”
Newly appointed club manager Patrick Newcombe will run the day-to-day operation and shape the customer experience across the venue’s sporting and hospitality sides.
“I’m incredibly proud to be leading our professional, friendly and passionate team at Padel8,” Newcombe said. “The team and I can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors and ensure every visit is a premium, seamless and enjoyable experience.”
With the opening approaching, Newcombe said his priority was to make the venue welcoming to players from every background.
“We want Padel8 to be a place where everyone feels welcome, whether they’re discovering padel for the first time or are already passionate about the sport,” Newcombe added. “I’m looking forward to bringing my years of experience to the role and helping establish Padel8 as a leading destination for sport, hospitality and community in Dewsbury.”
