Dimitrov survives in Monte Carlo

Not a fantastic start for Grigor Dimitrov in Monte Carlo, but a win is a win.

The Bulgarian had to battle hard against the world no.82 Pierre-Hugues Herbert before defeating the Frenchman 3-6 6-3 6-4.

The match

Grigor was broken twice in the first set to lose 6-3. An important moment of the match was when the world no.5 won 5 consecutive games before winning the second set 6-2 (from 1-2).

The decider was a dogfight with Grigor breaking Herbert in the 5th game (3-2), but then he dropped his serve immediately before winning the decisive break in the 7th game (4-3) again. From that moment both players held their serve and Dimitrov won the contest after 1 hour and 49 minutes.

Grigor will face either Kohlschreiber or last year’s runner-up Ramos Vinolas.
