Anna Schmiedlova wins a surprising title in Bogota.
Ranked no.132, the Slovakian played a fantastic final against Laura Arruabarrena to beat the Spaniard 6-2 6-4 in 80 minutes. There was a little bit of a drama after Anna failed to convert a match point while leading 6-2 5-1, but her title had to wait for only 3 more games.
After all, I made it.
After winning the match, Anna explained hat happened at the very end to comment
“A similar thing happened to me yesterday, but maybe it wasn’t so difficult as today. It was tough for me to finish it today, and I don’t know what happened. I just wanted to end it, and I maybe played a little less aggressive. But after all, I made it, and I’m very happy. I’m very happy that I didn’t complicate it more, and I didn’t go to a third set or something!”
This is Anna’s 3rd career title after her triumphs in Katowice and Bucharest both in 2015.
