What a title for Kiki Bertens!
The Belgian had to battle twice in the same day to beat Madison Key and then Julia Gorges in the semifinal and final of Charleston.
After Kiki edged the American in 2 hours and 43 minutes in the final with a thrilling 6-4 6-7 (2) 7-6 (5) scoreline, many were expecting that the Belgian would have folded in the final. Eventually, the new world no.21 was ruthless against Julia Gorges to dismantle the German in just 58 minutes (6-2 6-1).
It was a great start of the clay court season. BERTENS
Soon after the match, Kiki commented
“It’s just unbelievable. I think I cannot really realize it yet, but I’m just so happy and proud I think of myself. It’s a great start of the clay court season, and hopefully still more to come, but this one I have already and I’m really happy with that.”
