Why Federer gives quality advice says Tsitsipas on his Laver Cup “coach”

Tsitsipas has praised the 20-time Grand Slam Champion for his good advice during the Laver Cup.

Stefanos Tsitsipas made his Laver Cup debut this weekend in Geneva, Switzerland. The Greek player has enjoyed playing for Team Europe and is trying to help them win the cup for the third year running. With accomplished teammates such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the 21-year-old has been learning from the best players of this tennis era. He has been impressed by his two teammates who have offered him some coaching on the sidelines during matches.

Tsitsipas turned pro in 2016. He has won three ATP Tour titles. Currently ranked seventh, the player from Greece has been playing in the Laver Cup over the weekend. The 21-year-old has been a key figure for Team Europe. He has participated in a doubles match with Rafael Nadal as well as a singles match against Taylor Fritz which he won. During the matches, Tsitsipas received instructions from his experienced teammates. The Greek was impressed with Federer’s approach to offering help on the sidelines during matches.

Lots of advice

With the Swiss player on Team Europe, Stefanos feels that Team World is at a great disadvantage because they don’t have a player of Federer’s experience. The current number seven had been looking forward to sharing the court with the 20-time Grand Slam champion. He has taken advantage of the opportunity to play with the 38-year-old. The Swiss has been happy to offer his advice to Tsitsipas during matches which the Greek player has been happy to follow. The 21-year-old said, “I’ve already gotten lots of advice from Roger before I got into my first match. I try to heed it and thought about it while playing.”

Federer keeps it simple

He also praised Federer for keeping his advice simple and easy to follow. Despite world No. 3’s vast experience in the game, he has kept his approach relaxed and has not overwhelmed the Greek player with too much information. “Roger usually keeps it simple, which I really appreciate. He does not overload me with information. He is very efficient and effortless.”

Team Europe is the favorite to win the Laver Cup again this year. The tournament is proving to be beneficial to young players such as Tsitsipas who are learning from the experienced players in the game. With with the tournament being held in Federer’s home country, world No.7 acknowledged the support from the fans. “We have the advantage of playing here with Roger on homeland. Of course, I sensed that the crowd was behind me.”
