World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Rolex Shanghai Masters as his period away from the match court extends into the autumn.

The Italian star has not competed on the circuit since July, when he captured his fifth major crown at Wimbledon. An ongoing knee problem previously forced him to miss the North American hard-court swing, including the US Open, as well as the ATP 500 event in Beijing.

Sinner shares an update with Chinese fans

Addressing his absence, the 2024 champion took to social media to explain the decision to his supporters.

“Unfortunately I won’t be able to play at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year as I had hoped,” Sinner explained on Instagram Stories. “I always enjoy playing in front of the Shanghai fans and I’m very sorry that I won’t be able to do so next week. Thank you for all your support. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next year!”

Sinner previously won the Shanghai title in 2024 by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
