Stefanos Tsitsipas has spoken openly about Nick Kyrgios’ provisional suspension for cocaine, revealing he was not shocked by the news. The Greek admitted he had prior knowledge of the situation before it became public. “I don’t know what to tell you. To be entirely honest with you I knew about this before the announcement. I’ll just tell you the truth. I knew about all this before any announcement was made. When I saw it on social media, I was like ‘here we go.’ I expected it to be honest,” Tsitsipas said.
Surprised only by timing
While acknowledging he had heard about Kyrgios’ behavior on tour, Tsitsipas stressed that the timing of the suspension was the only unexpected element. “When I saw it, I was like… pretty much expected to be honest. I’m surprised it came so late though,” he added.
No attempt to cover up
Tsitsipas insisted he would not hide the truth about what he knew. “I’m not gonna try and cover up someone that I know the truth for. I consider myself a nice person with everyone. But these were behaviors that I personally heard on the tour…” he explained, underlining his decision to be transparent about the matter.
