"How I got back to the top". FEDERER

Roger Federer has broken 2 records this week to become the oldest world no.1 in tennis history and the player that the longest break from the time he lost his no.1 rank, and the time he got it back (more than 5 years).

The secret

The Swiss has always been extremely careful with his planning, and he explained that being patient and feeling his condition was key to get back at the top. Roger commented

“My philosophy is I play when I’m ready. What I did last year and what Rafael is also doing is maybe a bit of a lighter schedule.

It shows to others by working or practicing a bit more … you become a different or better player. I hope I take that fear away a little bit, that sometimes it’s OK to take time.”

Roger has taken a long hiatus from tennis in 2016 to halt his season soon after Wimbledon, and he decided to skip the entire clay court season last year. That was a smart one.
