Superlative Federer wins the Hopman Cup after 17 years!

Roger Federer writes another great page in the book of his astonishing career as the 19-time slam champion, wins the Hopman Cup after 17 years after Roger won the competition in partnership with the great Martina Hingis back in 2001.

This year, the Swiss Legend was partnering with Belinda Bencic in the final against the German team that was featuring Sascha Zverev and Angelique Kerber.

Roger played a tennis out of this world especially in the singles against Zverev. After losing the first set at the breaker, Federer was unplayable in the following 2 sets to win the match 6-7 (4) 6-0 6-2.


After Federer’s match, Belinda Bencic had to bow to a great Angelique Kerber that won 6-4 6-1 to make it even for Germany (1-1).


Everything went down to the decisive mixed doubles that are played with a FAST4 format. Roger once more was the boss of the situation to be absolutely determinant to win the match 4-3 (3) 4-2. Chapeaux also to Belinda Bencic that played a fantastic match with her childhood idol.

During the ceremony, Roger commented

“After all these years I can’t believe I’m here again. It’s absolutely amazing. Martina was different; she was hard work and very serious, but incredibly talented. I learned a lot from her, especially the two years I was here – once as a hitting partner and once as a partner with Martina. Definitely, she helped me to become the player I am today.”

Belinda couldn’t contain her happiness for winning this title with Federer to comment

“I want to thank Roger for playing with me. This is like a dream coming true for me, and I couldn’t wish for a better partner. I’ll never forget this week.”
