FANTASTIC Dimitrov reaches the final in London

Grigor Dimitrov reaches the finals at the London season final, after beating a sticky Jack Sock in the semis. Grigor had a losing record (1-3) against Jack before playing this match after he lost the last 3 encounters and that was in a way affecting the match.

The semis

Grigor had a bad start to lose immediately his serve in the second game and trail on a 0-3 scoreline. The Bulgarian got back his break in the 5th  game (2-3), but he conceded his serve once more in the 9th game (4-5) before losing the set 6-4.

Dimitrov started the second set in a much better fashion to bagel Sock (6-0) and bring everything to the decider.

The 3rd set was completely even until the end when Dimitrov conquered the decisive break in the 8th game (5-3).  Things were not set yet, because before winning the match, Dimitrov had to battle hard to hold his serve in the final game. He did it after he saved a break point and he failed to convert 4 match points. The Bulgarian won this match 4-6 6-0 6-3.

I had to fight some demons. DIMITROV

After the match, Grigor admitted that he was struggling mentally with his losing record against Sock to comment “Sometimes not only you have to fight yourself mentally, but you need to fight the demons from previous matches or your opponent.

But I was very happy the way I handled the pressure. Even though I was down a break point, even if I had to play an extra game or games, I had to accept it. I think, regardless, you learn from those moments. I certainly learned from that experience.”

The final vs. Goffin

Dimitrov will face David Goffin in the final. The Bulgarian leads the Belgian 4-1 in head to head matches (3-1 in 2017) and he trashed David 6-0 6-2 in the round robin of the final. Grigor will be the hot favorite to win this one but so was Federer in the semis against Goffin.

Game on!
