Krajinovic, Sock to play an unexpected final in Paris

Incredible stuff in Paris where the world no.22 Jack Sock and the world no.77 Filip Krajinovic will play the last ATP1000 final of the season.

Filip Krajinovic

Krajinovic was coming straight from the qualifications in Paris and, most incredibly, he is a guy that has rarely stayed in the top100 in his career. The Serbian has played for most of the year challengers (he won 5 of them in 2017) and at the beginning of the year most of the times he had to start from the qualifications even when playing Challengers 35. Krajinovic is in the final after he defeated John Isner 6-4 6-7 (2) 7-6 (5).

“The emotions are amazing,” said Krajinovic about his match against Isner. “It was a tough mental match. He was serving really well, he was playing aggressively. I knew that that’s going to happen. But when I served for the match, my hand was shaking. It was tough to control the emotions, but I knew I had to stay aggressive all the way to the end. I did it and it is the best day of my life.

“But the tournament is not over yet. I’ll prepare for tomorrow and then we’ll see. It’s just another match and I’m playing against Jack Sock. I know him from juniors. He’s a great player. I think it’s going to be an interesting match. So I will give everything what I have to finish the year strong.”

Jack Sock

Sock had a more “normal run” to reach the final after starting to compete from the 2nd round (he had a bye). IN the semifinal he defeated home-favorite Julien Benneteau 7-5 6-2. If Sock wins, not only he will win the most prestigious title of his career, but he will also qualify for the Finals in London.

Krajinovic and Sock have never played each other.
