Caroline Garcia qualifies for the semifinals in Singapore after producing a huge upset. The Frenchwoman had to beat an in-form Caroline Wozniacki, and she had to hope for Svitolina to defeat Simona Halep in the other match.
After Garcia lost the opening set 6-0 against the Dane nobody would have thought that she had any chances to qualify for the final 4. Eventually, Garcia managed to win the second set and to recover from a 3-5 deficit in the decider before winning the contest 0-6 6-3 7-5.
Still, Garcia had to hope for Svitolina to defeat Simona Halep in the other match, and eventually the Ukrainian defeated the world no.1 in just 70 minutes with a straight set win (6-3 6-4).
The semifinals will be:
Pliskova – Wozniacki
Garcia – Venus Williams
It’s absolutely impossible to point at a favorite.
