Denis Shapovalov is widely considered as one of the best prospects in tennis. The young Canadian has the right game and “physic du role” to be a prominent figure in the sport in the years to come.
Denis has often been compared to Roger Federer because of his aggressive tennis, nice personality and his trademark one-handed backhand similar to Roger’s.
What Denis said about Roger
During a recent interview with Le Matin, Shapovalov commented. “It’s a great compliment [being compared to Federer]. It definitely comes from my one-handed backhand, which is a rare and classic shot.
Obviously, I like to be compared to Rafa or Roger.
I watched Roger a lot, who is my idol. I grew up with his posters in my room. Roger is a true gentleman and role model.
But I don’t want to be like the champions of the past.”
Shapovalov has the chance to play Federer in Basel if he and the Swiss win the next match. That would be a quarterfinal to follow.
