Stefanos Tsitsipas is having a breakthrough tournament in Antwerp as after reaching the final 4 following his win over the seed no.1 David Goffin.
The upcoming Greek is coming straight from the qualifications, and this week he has already faced top players such as Pablo Cuevas and Ivo Karlovic before beating the Belgian.
The match
Stefanos looked doomed against the world no.10 after Goffin won the first set without much trouble (6-2). Then, the 19-year-old was great in holding serve for the entire second set before winning the following breaker at 1 (7-6).
The decider was a sheer roller coaster. Tsitsipas kept to being unable to consolidate his breaks against Goffin (3 in total). Stefanos squandered a 5-3 lead, then he was unable to serve out the match for the second time when leading 6-5, but the Greek held his nerves during the decisive breaker to win the contest 2-6 7-6 (1) 7-6 (4).
Things will come
Soon after the contest, an elated Tsitsipas commented
“I felt really happy that I could play this way. It’s a very important victory for me today. Keep my level at the level I was playing today, maybe even better and things will come. They come with time.”
The semi vs. Schwartzman
Stefanos will face Diego Schwartzman for a place in the semi-final. If he beats the Argentine, he will reach his first career final at ATP level, and he will consolidate his chances to qualify for the Next Gen ATP final.
