Nick Kyrgios is hitting the headlines for yet another meltdown that made many questioning about his mental health and if he is doing any good for the sport. The Australian defaulted after he completely lost the control during a match in Rome (see article) to receive a massive fine from the ATP.
A few hours before, Kyrgios had a rather controversial podcast when he trashed talked Djokovic, Nadal, and Verdasco. During this delirium, he said called Uncle Toni “an idiot.”
Federer: Kyrgios doesn’t deserve more penalties
During a press conference, Roger defended Kyrgios saying that he should not be given further penalties stating: “What did he do? He hurt a chair?”
Uncle Toni: Kyrgios needs to be penalized, he is bad for tennis
During an interview with “El Espanol”, Uncle Toni was of a different opinion to comment
“It is bad for tennis and has entered a dynamic that hurts him, something is failing, it is not normal, I have seen the images, and his attitude is quite painful.
The first thing that the ATP must do is not to give it a hype, to see it as little as possible. But Kyrgios attracts the public. If he had another mentality, he would aspire to give the maximum.
But he has difficulty taking on the pressure and difficulty of the competition. It does not do any good for the sport.
In the end, there is no other choice but to put a penalty on it.”
