Grigor Dimitrov and Dani Vallerdu enjoyed a rather successful partnership over the last 3 years that culminated with the Bulgarian winning the ATP Finals in 2017 and reaching a career high in the rankings (no.3).
Unfortunately, things started to go dramatically south in the following season as the Bulgarian was unable to build upon his success in London and he started to have problems even in winning more than 1 match per tournament from the second half on 2018.
Dimitrov’s rank is now just 46 and he has won only 4 of his last 9 matches. Grigor had to deal with yet another tough loss in his opening match in Madrid against Taylor Fritz that is definitely not a clay court player and then he decided to make a move and split with Dani.
The statement
Grigor released the following statement on Twitter
“After my match yesterday Dani Vallverdu my long time coach and I sat down together. After three great years, we will be going our separate ways. We had some career highlights and amazing moments on court.
I want to thank Dani for everything he has done for me and I wish him nothing but the best in his next endeavors.”
