Petra Kvitova couldn’t have started her title defense in Wimbledon in a better fashion.
It took just 35 minutes for the world no.2 to dismiss Kiki Bertens 6-1 6-0. Petra was in ominous form to win 28 of 29 points on her serve (the point she lost was a double fault) and she was incredibly successful at the net (10 of 10 points). Match Stats.
Kvitova: I am glad how I played
Petra was visibly satisfied “No, I’m fine!” Kvitova said. “I’m glad how I played. I don’t think I need any more practice today. I have practice tomorrow, and I think it’s fine. I just have to relax after the sickness I had last week.”
Actually I would be quite happy if nerves were always going to be like this! It wasn’t really easy, especially before the match – I had never played her before, and I didn’t really know what I should expect, but I served really well, and I’m glad about how I played out there. She had a really big forehand – she hit some really good serves as well. She has really good power. Practice at the end of last week was going well, so that was a good sign for me.”
Next vs. Nara
Kvitova will play Kurumi Nara in the next round. This is the first time they face each other.
