Federer open to play the Roland Garros

It’s no secret that one of the most important titles won by Roger Federer was the one he conquered in 2009 at the Roland Garros. In fact, that was the only slam “missing” in his career in Paris since Roger has been “blocked” a lot of times by his friend Rafael Nadal that defeated him 4 times in the Roland Garros final (2006, 2007, 2008, 2011).

Roger hasn’t played the French Open for 3 years because in 2016 he had to recover from a knee operation and last year he decided not to play to preserve his body for the grass court swing (that move made him win Halle and Wimbledon).

Why Roger may play the Roland Garros this year

Roger always had a weakness for the Roland Garros, and he has never been shy to say that he would have tried again to win that trophy again. Currently, many top players are struggling with injuries. Nadal has withdrawn for the last 9 events, Murray had a hip injury, Djokovic is still struggling with his elbow, and Wawrinka has not recovered from his knee operation. This situation would make things easier for Roger in Paris.

Last year Roger decided not to play the French Open even if he was fit, but if he perceives that he is OK after playing Indian Wells and Miami, Federer may give a shot at the Roland Garros.

I dream of coming back at the Roland Garros

During a recent interview with RMC Sport, Roger commented

“I dream of coming back to Roland-Garros. I do not know; I will decide that in April after Indian Wells.

“It depends on how I feel; it’s much more than a decision, it’s the decision of the year, it’s in the middle of the year, it’s a surface change.

I’m going to focus on the hard, but honestly, I hope.”
