Evans banned for 1 year for cocaine

Dan Evans is not having a fantastic moment. The talented Brit has been found positive for cocaine this year in Barcelona (24th of April), and he has been suspended since then from the competitions. The Brit had to forfeit the prize money 103,890 euros and the points gained between the date he was found positive and the official announcement that he failed the test (23rd of June).

Why only 1 year

Evans, 27, could face a devastating 4 years’ ban, but he immediately admitted his violation, and he was handed a 1-year suspension instead; he can be back to competitions the 24th of April.

According to Evans, he accidentally mixed a “leftover” cocaine with his medications in the same pocket of his washbag. Apparently, the amount ingested by the Briton was only between 1-3 mg that represents a typical amount of an “inadvertent contamination.”.

I am determined to get back. EVANS

Dan commented

“I am determined to return to the sport I love. I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this difficult period.”
