Garbine Muguruza didn’t have a fantastic experience in China this year. The world no.1 got a virus in Wuhan where she lost in the quarters, and she didn’t recover in Beijing to retire while trailing on a 1-6 0-2 scoreline against Barbora Strycova. The Spaniard was hoping for a better run following also her title at the China Open in 2015.
What Garbine said
After the match, Garbine commented
“It’s very tough, I got a virus in Wuhan. It’s the easy way to think: ‘don’t go on the court’. I want to feel like giving the last chance, going on the court, just hit [a] few balls, see how I’m going to feel, try to turn things around.
I don’t want to retire before the tournament starts.”
