Nadal surprised on how Catalonia has been radicalized

Rafa cannot believe what has happened in his country

Rafael Nadal is a huge ambassador for Spain, and he has always stated his position against the secession of Catalonia. The world no.1 had to witness from China the recent riots in Spain where the police brutalized some citizens following the illegal vote for the independence.

Why Rafa is upset

During the recent pre-tournament interview in Beijing, Rafa commented

“I want to cry when I see a country where we have known how to co-exist and be a good example to the rest of the world get to a situation like this. I think the image we have presented to the world is negative.

It was a sad moment; my heart sank all day. Moreover, from here, at a distance, you experience it differently.

I have spent many parts of my life in Catalonia, important moments, and to see a society so radicalized surprises and disheartens me.”

Nadal will have to “forget” as soon as possible the troubles of his country because he will have a very tough test in the Beijing open against Lucas Pouille that has defeated him the last time they played on hard courts (US Open 2016).
