Jannik Sinner achieved a historic milestone by winning his first Italian Open in Rome, completing the career golden masters with victories in all nine Masters 1000 tournaments. “Yeah, amazing, you know. It has been already since first time here 2019 playing first time here in this court and I always felt as a very very special tournament for me and now saying that I won this tournament here, it means a lot to me,” he said, reflecting on the significance of the achievement.
Importance for Italy
Sinner emphasized the broader meaning of his victory for his country. “It’s important also for Italy, you know, 50 years back exactly this year, it’s a big number. I’m very happy to make Italians happy. We are such a strong group with many other Italian players playing incredible tennis and our chances are getting always higher and higher to win,” he commented, underlining the collective strength of Italian tennis.
Handling pressure and challenges
The road to victory was not without obstacles. Sinner spoke about the emotional strain of long matches, rain delays, and the expectations of the home crowd. “A lot of tension, especially today in the final I felt a lot of tension, but I tried to control my emotions in the best possible way. It’s also this kind of learning process. I feel like I cannot know everything when I’m 24 years old, but I’m very happy how we handled this situation,” he said, showing maturity in his approach.
Gratitude to his team
Sinner credited his team for their crucial role in his success. “Thanks also to my physical trainer and then physio and osteopath to put the body in the best possible shape, because without them it’s not possible. It’s a big teamwork,” he explained, acknowledging the support system that helped him reach this level.
A small celebration was hinted at, though Sinner admitted it might turn into a big one. His victory in Rome not only marked personal glory but also reinforced Italy’s growing influence in world tennis.
