WTA rankings. Ostapenko, Barty, Garcia at career high

Jelena Ostapenko, Caroline Garcia, and Ashleigh Barty are the big movers in the rankings after the premier event in Wuhan.

Ostapenko

Jelena had a good run in Wuhan where she defeated the world no.1 Garbine Muguruza in the quarters. Eventually, she lost in the semifinal to Ashleigh Barty, but after reaching the final 4, the Latvian got the points that helped her to move 2 places up in the rankings and be the new world no.8 (career high).

 

Garcia

Caroline won the title in Wuhan to conquer the most important tournament of her career. After this feat, the Frenchwoman gains 5 places in the rankings to be the new world no. 15 (career high).

Barty

The Australian had an astonishing run in Wuhan where she defeated Jo Konta, Agnieszka Radwanska, Karolina Pliskova, and Jelena Ostapenko back to back. Ashleigh had to bow only in the final against Caroline Garcia after 3 hard-fought sets. After this week, the Australian is ranked no. 23 (career high).

Sakkari

The Greek had an amazing run in Wuhan where she reached the semifinals coming straight from the qualifications. Maria gains 30 places in the rankings to be the new world no.50 (career high).
