Why Zverev was successful in the transition to the pro tour

Sascha Zverev is about to start his Beijing campaign as the seed no.2. The German had a fantastic season so far to win 2 ATP1000 (Rome and Montreal), and he is set to go for more in 2017.

Why Sascha was successful in the transition to the pro tour

During a recent interview in Beijing, the 20-year-old gives a very interesting insight on how he has managed to successfully switch from the “juniors’ tour” to the pro tour.

Sascha commented

“A lot of juniors, they play so-called ‘junior tennis’ where they put the ball in play, try to wait for their opponents to miss, stuff like this. I was always somebody, even when I was losing, who was trying to be aggressive, always trying to hit the ball.

I think from a young age; you have to try to learn to play an adult game. Even though it doesn’t always work out, at the end that’s the only way of making the pros. That’s the only way of being successful on the pro tour afterward.”

Sascha also acknowledged the importance of his brother Mischa in his tennis life to state “I think my brother helped me with it because he was on the pro tour already. He could always talk, he could always teach me a lot of stuff. But then also it depends on game styles as well a little bit.”

Sascha will face fellow “nextgen Kyle Edmund in the opener in Beijing. The head to head os 1-0 for the German that has won their only contest in 2016 after Kyle retired in the 3rd set in Nice.
