How can Federer regain world no.1 after Wimbledon – ATP Rankings

Roger is a man of statistics. He loves them and he managed to break so many records, but he is missing a couple of important ones.

First, Jimmy Connors’ 109 title (OK.. we need to say that the American was quite happy to win minor US tournaments). This is Roger’s long term goal, you can bet on it.

Second being the world no.1 for more than 286 weeks (the record is hold by Pete Sampras). For the short term, Roger is going for the latter since he is only 1 week shy to tie with his friend Pete. Wimbledon will give him this chance.

The Swiss Maestro does not win a major for 2 years and he does not reach a Slam final for 52 weeks, but he has been quite impressive during the last 12 months in winning lots of tournaments. He now holds the ATP Final (London), 3 masters 1000 (Paris, Indian Wells and Madrid) and 3 500 titles (Basel, Rotterdam and Dubai).

How can Roger become world no.1?

After removing last year’s Wimbledon points we will have this ranking

Djokovic10.280
Federer9.075
Nadal 8.860

The points available are

2000 for the winner
1200 for the runner-up
720 for the semifinalist

This means that Roger can grab the first spot only if he wins Wimbledon and Nole do not get to the final.

Let’s say that Roger wins over Rafa in the final (and Nole gets to the semis) the ranking would be:

Federer11.075
Djokovic 11.000
Nadal10.060

… what about Rafa?

The King of Clay can also become world nr.1 if he wins Wimbledon and Nole do not get to the semis. Let’s say that Rafa wins over Roger and Nole gets to the quarters. the ranking will be.

Nadal10.860
Djokovic10.640
Federer10.275

… what about Nole?

For some reasons we think that Nole will try to spoil the party.

Game On!
