Simona Halep happy to add fellow Romanian to her team

Simona Halep is the eternal world no.2, and she doesn’t want to be remembered for that. On many occasions this year, the Romanian was inches away from getting the top spot in the rankings, but she has never managed to grab that… yet.

Why Simona added Pavel to his team

Simona Halep has decided to add the former world no. 13 Andrei Pavel to her team to achieve her dreams. Andrei has won 3 career titles and he has reached the Roland Garros quarters back in 2002. The world no.2 commented

“I knew before the US Open. Darren [Simona’s coach] said he wants him in the team and of course I agreed in the first second because I liked Andrei always. He said it was going to be a good spirit in our team and a little bit of a different voice.

I chose him because of his experience. He was in the Top 15, No.13, my lucky number, actually. He was my idol when I was 10 or 11 when I was growing up in Romania. I liked a lot his style, his backhand, so I saw a little bit that we are similar. Also, the legs. Big legs.

So, I thought he was going to be a very good for us. But we’ll see. We are just in a trial period for these months, and then we’ll decide.”

Simona is currently competing in Wuhan where she is seeded no.2 Let’s see if she will manage to overtake Muguruza for the top spot with Andrei’s contribution.
