Gojowczyk wins first career title in Metz

Peter Gojowczyk at 28 years wins his first career title coming straight from the qualifications.

The German had to win 7 matches in 8 days to conquer Metz, but he was “lucky” for not playing that much as he won only 1 match in 3 sets and he had a free pass to the final after Mischa Zverev had to retire during their semifinal.

The final

Gojowczyk was extremely sharp in the final against Benoit Paire to win the match without conceding a single break point. The German won the opener 7-5 after he broke Benoit in the 11th game (6-5). The Frenchman imploded in the second set, and Peter got a decisive 4-0 lead before winning the all thing 7-5 6-2 in 67 minutes.

Gojowczyk is the 7th first-time titlist in 2017 after Muller (Sydney), Harrison (Memphis), Coric (Marrakech), Sugita (Antalya), Rublev (Umag), and Dzmhur (St. Petersburg).
