Ostapenko wins the title in Seoul!

Jelena Ostapenko’s record was pretty funny before this week because the Latvian used to have only 1 title under her belt: the French Open. After her week in Seoul, Jelena made things more “normal” to add another (“more ordinary”) title to her belt.

The final

Things were not so smooth for Jelena during the final against the world no.71 Beatriz Haddad Maia that won the opening set at the breaker after she recovered from a 1-3 deficit. After losing the first set, the Latvian didn’t blink, and Jelena grabbed the first 3 games of the second set after playing her “fast and furious” tennis leaving only one point to her opponent. That was enough for Ostapenko to conquer the second set 6-1.

The decider was a sheer thriller with 7 breaks in 10 games. Jelena seemed to be in a very strong position after clinching a 3-1 lead, but the Brazilian found her way back to make it even (3-3). After another long series of breaks, finally, Jelena held at serve (at love) in the final game to win the contest 6-7 (5) 6-1 6-4.

Happy to win my second title. OSTAPENKO

Soon after the match, Jelena commented

“I’m really happy to win my second title here and in my career. I enjoyed playing here, and to also see so many Latvian flags is amazing. It’s my first time in Korea. I enjoyed my time here; hopefully, I can be back next year and win some more titles here.”

After this title, Jelena increases her chances to qualify for Singapore. Still, a long way to go, but she is not that far off.
