Nick Kyrgios is expected to play the upcoming Laver Cup in Geneva that will take place the weekend of the 21 – 23 of September. The erratic Australian accepted to play the event with his (new) friend Stefanos Tsitsipas. Nick loves engaging in competitions that allow him to team up with other players, and the Laver Cup is one of the key events for him.
Rod Laver saying that a ban would be helpful for Kyrgios
Rod Laver is an icon of the sport not only for the 2 Grand Slams that he earned in 1962 and 1962, but also and especially for his exemplary behavior and ethics.
The weird stuff is that Rod Laver has recently stated that Kyrgios should probably receive a ban because of his controversial behavior. Rod commented: “whatever they have done hasn’t worked so far, so maybe a suspension is the only answer. I’m not sure he’s learned anything from any of the things that have gone on.”
Why it’s bizarre seeing Kyrgios playing the Laver Cup
Events like the Laver Cup needs to be profitable to stay alive and Nick Kyrgios has always been considered “box office stuff” because of his tennis and his antics. But isn’t this too in contrast with the value that the Laver Cup should represent especially as it is bearing the name of such a legend that also reproaches Kyrgios’ behavior?
This is the typical Kyrgios’ enigma. Isn’t it?
