Cilic, Nalbandian reach the final at Queen’s – 2012 Aegon Championship

Marin Cilic and David Nalbandian will play for th title at Queen’s. The semifinals depitched 2 different stories.

CILIC – QUERREY 6-3 3-6 6-3

This was a very closer encounter. There was not much difference between the two with the exception that Marin was very effective to save 10 break points out of 13 conceded. The American wasn’t as good to concede only 5 break points (but he was able to save only one). This was the big difference at the end of the day.

“It was very difficult, especially in that third game having to save eight or nine break points, and then struggling a little bit with the rhythm and with the nerves,” said Cilic. “So it was a bit difficult with that, struggling, fighting actually with that throughout all the match. But managing in the end pretty good with it.

“Playing a final, there is more motivation, more everything,” continued the Croatian. “Definitely a great week for me and great preparation for Wimbledon.”

NALBANDIAN – DIMITROV 6-4 6-4

David destroyed the dreams of Baby Federer in a not so easy semifinal. The Argentine won in straight sets, but only 10 points divided the two players (73-63 for Nalbandian). The big difference was that David’s tennis was more solid to concede only 4 break points (well.. ok he was able to save only 1 of those) against 12 break points conceded by Dimitrov. Eventually the Bulgarian was broken 5 times that is far too much in a match played on grass (and with a best of three formula).

“The wind was terrible today,” said Nalbandian. “I don’t think we played a very nice match, but we tried our best. It was very difficult but happy to win. I’m very happy. I’ve played this tournament a few times, and I never reached the final. So happy to be tomorrow on court, and I hope to be ready and I hope the conditions are better, as well.”

Head to head: Nalbandian leads 4-1. This is the first time they play on grass.
