It’s always easy to talk about the top players in the world, but sometimes it’s easy to overlook what other players can achieve all over the world, and something special happened in Tokyo.
The world no.100 Zarina Diyas from Kazakhstan won her maiden tournament in Tokyo after conquering 8 matches (yes, to win a slam you need “only” 7 wins).
This crazy run started the 10th of September when Zarina won 2 matches in a day with the same result (6-3 6-2). Finally, the Kazakhstani reached the main draw, and she got to the final where she faced Miyu Kato that was also aiming at her maiden WTA trophy, and she was also coming from the qualifications. Eventually, it was Zarina to win the contest 6-2 7-5.
What a run!
