Denis Shapovalov is getting better and better with both his tennis and confidence.
The upcoming Canadian had a scintillating weekend in Edmonton where he won both his singles even if things were not so easy.
In fact, on the first day, Brayden Schnur (ranked 202) lost 5-7 7-6 (4) 7-5 7-5 to Ramkumar Ramanathan (no.154) before Shapovalov edged Yuki Bhambri 7-6 (2) 6-4 6-7 (8) 6-4 6-1.
On the second day, Nestor and Pospisil won a tricky match in doubles against Bopanna and Raja 7-5 7-5 5-7 6-3 to give an important 2-1 lead to their team.
Everything was in Denis’ hands on the final day, and the 18-year-old didn’t disappoint. Shapovalov defeated Ramanathan 6-3 7-6 (1) 6-3 after playing an extremely solid tennis. Finally, Bhambri defeated Schnur in the dead rubber 6-4 4-6 6-4.
After this weekend, Canada is finally back in the World Group, and if Raonic is willing and fit to play in 2018, they have definitely a shot at winning the trophy.
