At 18 years of age, the Canadian has caught the attention of the media after scoring important wins against top players such as Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. One of the most attractive traits of Shapovalov is his aggressive attitude coupled with a magnificent one-handed backhand.

What Sampras said

During a recent interview with the Independent, Pete Sampras said that Denis will be a top player in the near future alongside Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem.

Pete added “I really like his [Denis] attitude. He’s got a lot of energy out there, has a big game and has got all the shots.”

Shapovalov is currently in Canada where he is playing the Davis Cup play-off against India.
