Sloane Stephens wins the US Open

Sloane Stephens surprises everyone after winning an incredible title at the US Open.

The American has been battling for years with injuries and stress related problems. She took almost one year off from last summer following a foot surgery to come back only in July. After crashing out in the 1st rounds in London and Washington, Sloane reached the semifinals in Toronto, Cincinnati before winning this incredible title at the Flushing Meadows.

The final

Stephens wasn’t the favorite in the final against Madison Keys especially after Madison swept aside Coco Vandeweghe 6-1 6-2. The match lasted just 4 games (2-2) before Slone won the first break (3-2). From that moment, the American conquered 10 of the following 11 games to win the contest 6-3 6-0. To be fair with Madison, the second set bagel (6-0) was a bit too tough for the world no.16 as every game was a battle.

I had surgery in January. STEPHENS

Soon after the match, Sloane commented

“I had surgery in January, and if someone had told me then that I would win the US Open, I would have said it was impossible.

This journey has been incredible, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Madison is one of my best friends on tour. I wouldn’t have wanted to play anyone else. I told her that I wished it could have been a draw.”
