Nadal upset by Kohlschreiber in Halle – 2012 Gerry Weber

So far Rafa played 8 times with Kohlschreiber without being defeated. This time it was clear that it was about to come.

Nadal was not prepared at all to compete at high levels on this kind of super fast surface that is complete different from the centre court in Paris. The Spaniard was not at ease at all in his first match against Lacko where he struggled a lot in the opening set. And this time there was Kohlschreiber that had a perfect match without conceding any break to the Spaniard.

“I said it was going to be tough,” said Nadal. “He plays well on this court. You just have to congratulate him. He played very aggressively, served well, returned well. He played better than me. I was suffering when he was serving. I didn’t have that energy to change the situation.”

As usual Rafa will go back to Mallorca to spend as much time as he can with his family. “I can’t practice on grass there but it’s better not to practice for a few days. It’s time to rest with my family, friends, to relax,” he added. “I’ve played almost every match possible since Indian Wells. When I’m ready to come back, I’ll go to Wimbledon.”

Kohlschreiber will play in the semifinal against either Berdych or Haas. Needless to say, the homecrowd would be delighted to see an all German semifinal.
