Kevin Anderson and Pablo Carreno-Busta are the two big surprises of the US Open edition.
We all know that with the withdrawal of Andy Murray and the early departure of the top seeds, the bottom half of the draw was up for grabs. Still, Kevin Anderson and Pablo Carreno-Busta had an amazing run after they reached the final four at this US Open following strong performances.
Kevin Anderson
The South African is definitely playing one of the best tennis of his career. After winning the first 3 matches without dropping a single set beating tough opponents such Ernests Gulbis and Borna Coric, Kevin edged Paolo Lorenzi in the 4 sets to then defeat Sam Querry in a thriller 7-6 (5) 6-7 (9) 6-3 7-6 (7) after 3 hours and 26 minutes. The match ended almost at 2 am.
Pablo Carreno-Busta
The Spaniard has surprised not only for reaching the semi-finals at the US Open, but also for the fact that by doing this he hasn’t dropped a single set on the way! Pablo had a smooth quarter against Schwartzman after he beat the Argentine 6-4 6-4 6-2.
The head to head
Kevin leads Pablo 2-0. The South Africa has recently defeated Pablo in the Montreal 2nd round 6-3 7-6 (6). They would have never thought to play their next encounter in the US Open semi-final.
