Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens to fight in the US Open semi-final

The American tennis is not achieving fantastic results for a long time on the men’s side, but it’s still rather prolific on the women’s.

Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens will play an all-American semi-final at the US Open after surviving a tight 3 setter in their quarters.

Venus Williams

The American won a tough quarter against Petra Kvitova. Venus was 1-3 down in all sets. In the opener, she won 5 consecutive games to change the scoreline from 1-3 to 6-3.  Venus wasn’t able to recover the 1-3 deficit in the 2nd set, but she managed again to come back in the decider when she brought the affair to the breaker. Eventually, the world no.9 found the energy to win the contest 6-3 6-3 7-6 (2).

Sloane Stephens

Still ranked no.83, Sloane is finally finding her way back in the rankings after a series of injuries. The American reaches the US Open semi-finals after winning a huge battle against Anastaja Sevastova. After splitting the first two sets, the fight went down to the decider. Sloane managed to recover from a break-down deficit (1-3) to engage in a fierce dogfight that, after 3 more consecutive breaks, ended at the tie-break. Stephens held her nerves to win the match 6-3 3-6 7-6 (4).

The head to head

The head to head is 1-0 for Sloane that has defeated Venus in the French Open 1st round in 2015 7-6 (5) 6-1. Unless Williams struggles with her energy, she should get the ticket to the final.
