NADAL – LACKO 7-5 6-1
This was a tricky match for Rafa that struggled to find his best tennis on this super fast surface in the first set. In the opener, the Spaniard had many problems to find the right timing on the grass and an inspired Lacko was not really helpful for the cause of the seed no.1. Rafa just managed to find the decisive break in the the 11 game of the opener. Conversely, the second set was a walk in tha park with Rafa conceding only 1 game to Lukas.
“At the beginning, it was more difficult to return,” said Nadal, “I tried to put more balls inside, trying to return with a bit of slice. That put me into a bit more of a rhythm. Every match here is very dangerous after playing on clay for 2 and half months,” he added.
Rafa will play Kohlschreiber in the next round. Head to Head is 8-0 for Rafa. They have never played on the grass before and the German is very dangerous here (he is the defending champion).
FEDERER – MAYER 6-4, 7-5
Tricky task also for Roger at his first match on the grass with a dangerous opponent. Finally Roger managed to win the match without conceding any break in only 74 minutes (yes.. here the surface is so fast that the points do not last much) . “I’m very happy with the way things went today. I obviously knew playing against Mayer in the first round was going to be tricky,” Federer said. He’s in the top 30 and has been to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. I’ve played him here on grass before, so I know how tough he can be.”
Roger will play Raonic in the next round. Head to head is 2-0 for Roger and both times the Swiss Maestro came back from 1 set down. An upset is not so unluckily and the winner has strong chances to win the tournament.
