Jelena Ostapenko wins her 1st round match at the US Open against Laura Arruabarrena with her typical style: blasting everything she can.
The young Latvian submerged Laura with countless winners in the opening set to win 6-2. Jelena had to deal with a completely different fortune in the second set as she was distracted and struggling with the weather conditions as the lines started to become slippery because of the rain. Eventually, the Latvian lost the second set 6-1 before winning the third… 6-1. The final score was an “Ostapenko-sque” 6-2 1-6 6-2.
Next vs. Cirstea
Jelena will face Sorana Cirstea in the second round. They have never played each other so far.
