Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev is one of the brightest tennis players in the world. Currently ranked as the 5th best male tennis player in the world, Medvedev is on his way to becoming a force in the sport. He qualified for the finals of the US Open in New York where he will face decorated tennis superstar Rafael Nadal on Sunday. Medvedev is 23-year-old as he was born on 11th February 1996 to his father Sergey and his mother Olga in Moscow, Russia. He has a sister named Elena. He weighs around 182lbs (83kg) and his height is around 6ft and 6 inches which translates roughly to 193cm. Medvedev started playing tennis at age 6 and his father encouraged him to take the sport seriously. He turned pro in the year 2014. He is currently coached by Gilles Cervara. On 19th August 2019, he achieved a career-high No. 5. Medvedev has five Singles Career titles with the highlight being the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati in which he was the first-ever Russian to ever win the title. Medvedev has had a great 2019 and he currently leads the ATP Tour with a winning record of 44 wins. He has a 116-71 career win-loss record. Medvedev studied applied economics and commerce in Russia but dropped out to focus on tennis.

Swiss watch brand Bovet is also in partnership with Medvedev for the marketing of their handcrafted watches. 

Wife, Residence and Interests

Medvedev got married to his long-time girlfriend Daria on September 12, 2018, in Moscow, Russia. The young couple is enjoying life together and Medvedev credits Daria for improved form in attaining the number five ranking in the world.

They currently reside in Antibes, France where Medvedev trains. Medvedev enjoys playing Play Station and is a big fan of German football team Bayern Munich. His favorite players are David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski. With a match against tennis great Rafael Nadal waiting in the finals of the US Open, Medvedev will hope that his good form will continue as he hopes to clinch his first Grand Slam title.

Ranked no.5 (career-high), Medvedev has a 49-16 win-loss record in 2019. Daniil is now competing at the U.S. Open where he toppled Prajnesh Gunneswaran 6-4 6-1 6-2, Hugo Dellien 6-3 7-5 5-7 6-3, Feliciano Lopez 7-61 4-6 7-67 6-4, Dominik Koepfer 3-6 6-3 6-2 7-62, Stan Wawrinka 7-66 6-3 3-6 6-1 and Grigor Dimitrov 7-65 6-4 6-3.

The Russian will square off with Nadal in the final. The head to head is 1-0 for Nadal. Rafa won 6-3 6-0 in the final in Montreal in 11th August 2019.

Medvedev clinched 2 titles in 2019 in Sofia and in Cincinnati. The Russian was the finalist in Brisbane, in Barcelona, in Washington and in Montreal.
