Simona Halep is chasing an elusive world no.1 rank for a few months. The world no.2 has a big chance to finally get to the top of the rankings at the US Open, but she had to face a devastating draw as she will face a wildcarded Maria Sharapova right in the first round.
Simona has a terrible head to head record against the Russian (0-6), and this time she needs to do something different if she wants to reverse that.
I need to change something. HALEP
In the pre-tournament press conference, Simona commented
“My reaction was normal because this year I had very tough draws every time almost. Of course, was a little bit, like, ‘How is it possible again?'”
“It’s going to be a big challenge, the first round of a Grand Slam, to face her. She beat me six times. So maybe I will change this. We will see Monday.
I don’t know exactly what to say about this [her record against Masha], but just a little bit difficult because maybe the game that she’s playing flat, she’s playing risky, and maybe in the most important moments during the matches against her I couldn’t step in and just take the opportunity.
I feel better, and I feel that I’m ready to face her again. It doesn’t matter what the result will be. I just want to change something. Maybe I can win. We will see.”
Let’s see what this is going to be.
