Emotional Murray withdraws from the US Open

Andy Murray surprises everyone after he retires from the US Open.

It wasn’t a secret that the Brit no.1 could have skipped the US Open, but then he decided to give it a shot, and he was expected to play even if not at his 100%. Eventually, on Sunday, Andy announced in a press conference that he is not fully fit to compete and therefore there was no point in playing the last slam of the season.

It’s too sore to play. MURRAY

During the press conference, Andy commented

“It’s too sore for me to win the tournament and ultimately that’s what I was here to try and do,”

“I did pretty much everything that I could to get myself ready here and took a number of weeks off after Wimbledon. I obviously spoke to a lot of hip specialists. Tried resting, rehabbing, to try and get myself ready here.

I was actually practicing OK the last few days. I certainly wouldn’t have been hurting myself more by trying to play. It was more a question of whether it would settle down in time. Obviously, I kind of ran out of time. Maybe if I’d been able to take a little bit more time off.”

What is going to happen to the draw

Federer will not move from his half and Cilic will take Murray’s place in the lower part of the draw. Roger would have moved on the other side of the draw if Murray had pulled out before the draws were compiled.

Lukas Lacko will be the new lucky loser to access the main draw.
