Matteo Berrettini is about to play the most important match of his young career at the US Open as he will face the great Rafael Nadal in the semifinal.

The Italian has surprised the tennis community with his fantastic run at the Flushing Meadows especially after he defeated an in-form Gael Monfils in the quarters. That was a passionate 5 setter that ended after 4 hours of pure tension.

Matteo will try upset the Spanish sensation to grab a historical final in New York. However, Berrettini is well aware that beating the King of Clay will be an enormous task also on hard courts.

During his last press conference, he commented:

“I think he’s the greatest fighter ever in this sport. It’s unbelievable [what] he’s doing. I admire him, like, the way he’s on the court, you know. Like his attitude is something that I think it’s close to perfection. He’s always, like, 5-0, 40-Love down, he’s always there. It’s something that’s not that easy to do. So bravo.”

Berrettini’s live rankings

Matteo is actually ranked no.24. However, after reaching the semifinal in New York, the Italian is no.13 in the live rankings, and no.9 in the YTD live rankings. That means that he has a strong chance to qualify for the ATP finals in London especially if he beats Rafa.
